Hoddesdon is a commuter town in the English county of
Hertfordshire, situated in the Lea Valley.
Hoddesdon grew up as a coaching stop on the route between Cambridge and
London.
Hoddesdon's urban district status was abolished in 1974 by the Local
Government Act 1972, becoming part of the district of Broxbourne.
The Borough of Broxbourne covers 52 km (20 square miles) in south east
Hertfordshire and has a population of about 83,000. Broxbourne's towns of
Waltham Cross, Cheshunt, Broxbourne and Hoddesdon lie along the Lee Valley's
main roads and railways.
